HOME Phase 2: Update (April 3, 2024)
By now, all Galindo homeowners should have received the following postcard containing important information about HOME Phase 2.
There will be a number of open houses and public hearings over the next month about the proposed changes to the land development code (as listed on postcard).
HOME Phase 2 most notably proposes a reduction in minimum lot size from 5,750 sqft to 2,000 sqft for a single unit (see: https://speakupaustin.org/r6817#tab-48843). This would allow for existing single family lots to be subdivided into smaller lots.
The first public hearing will be next week, Thursday April 11. People who wish to speak can sign up starting at 10am on Monday, April 8th. Agenda and sign-up details will be updated here: https://www.austintexas.gov/department/city-council/council/council_meeting_info_center.htm
As we understand, you should be able to attend in person or via the phone. More details will be at the link above as the date grows closer.
To quickly recap Phase 1: HOME Phase 1 was passed last December and is now in effect. The biggest change allows for construction of up to 3 units on lots zoned as single family, and removes requirements around unrelated adult occupancy limits (see: https://www.austintexas.gov/news/austin-city-council-passes-home-code-amendments-phase-1).
