About GENA

Contact: communications@gena.org

The Galindo Neighborhood is a wonderful gem nestled in the heart of South Austin. The boundaries are Oltorf Street on the North, Ben White on the South, the Union Pacific Railway on the West and South First Street on the East.

The Galindo Elementary Neighborhood Association (GENA) represents residents and residential property owners within the Galindo Neighborhood.

The purpose of the Association is to seek to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood in matters such as land use, traffic control, social functions, environmental protection, public services, and other matters of neighborhood concern.

History of GENA

GENA was founded in 1996 by Rolando Piña, a long time Galindo resident and community activist.

Rolando initially served as President and has remained active in the neighborhood. Many neighbors know him for his Patriotic Porch Parties that still occur around every 4th of July.

Over the years, GENA has continued to be a voice for Galindo residents.

For more on the history of Galindo and GENA, see our History page.

Did you know…?
The Association originally adopted its name after nearby Galindo Elementary in order to emphasize its commitment to improving the elemental quality of life in the Galindo neighborhood. Galindo Neighborhood Association and Galindo Elementary Neighborhood Association can be used interchangeably.
